Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) will hold more than 30 tactical military exercises during the summer, a Russian Defense Ministry’s press service’s spokesman said.

“During the summer period of training for 2015, more than 30 tactical exercises with missile unites and over 20 tactical specialized training exercises with support and security units will be held,” Col. Igor Egorov told journalists.

According to Egorov, strategic missile troops will carry out monitoring tasks in field positions for up to 32 days.

In March and April, Strategic Missile Forces carried out counter-terrorist exercises in Russia's southeast.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russia will hold at least 4,000 military drills throughout 2015.

The Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) are an Arm of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the main component of its Strategic Nuclear Forces (SNF).

They are designed for nuclear deterrence of a possible aggression and, as a part of the SNF or on their own, for defeat of strategic objects located in one or more strategic air-space areas and forming the basis of the enemy’s military and military-economic potential by means of large-scale, group or single nuclear missile attacks.
