The site for Bahrain's proposed new airport will be near Fasht Al Jarim, it was revealed last week.

The announcement came as Deputy Premier Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Committee for services and infrastructure, said a report in Gulf Daily News (GDN).

He asserted that the plan to have a modern airport reflected the leadership’s desire to develop the country’s infrastructure, particularly the civil aviation sector.

The next phase will focus on preparing detailed studies for the project including links with road, water, electricity and GCC railway networks.

Meanwhile, the $900 million Bahrain International Airport development project will be implemented by year-end.

The project, to be financed by the GCC Development Program, will help meet requirements until work on the new airport project is completed, Sheikh Khalid said. (Gulf Daily News)
