Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Industry and Advanced Technology, visited a GE facility in Dubai, and met with senior figures from its energy, healthcare and aviation sectors.

Discussions were held at GE’s first of its kind in the region, state-of-the-art gas turbine facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), and featured demonstrations of future technologies, including a focus on the energy transition, digital aviation and healthcare solutions.

The Minister was received by Dr. Dalya Al Muthanna, President of GE in the UAE and the Global Chief of Strategy and Operations for GE International Markets, along with other leaders.

During the visit, HE Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri and members of the delegation shared insights into the vision of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology. GE aligns with the Ministry’s ambitious goals, and will continue to support the nation’s growth and development through a focus on technology and innovation.

HE the Minister reaffirmed: “We are pleased at how successful the General Electric Service Center has become since launching in the UAE. Its presence here is in line with the Make it in the Emirates initiative and Technology Transformation Program, which aims to attract investors, manufacturers and innovators. The General Electric Service Center represents a pioneering model for utilizing advanced technology and deploying it in future and vital industries namely aerospace.”

“Additionally, this tech-enabled model is conducive to enhancing productivity and efficiency, while empowering the industrial sector’s contribution to the national economy and elevating its role in sustainable development,” she stressed.

Her Excellency added: “The UAE always welcomes quality investments in the industrial sector. Investors are invited to set up in the UAE and benefit from our exceptional incentives and value proposition provided to them as part of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology. Under the strategy, national programs aim to position the UAE as a leading global destination for advanced technology and 4IR solutions.”

Dr. Dalya Al Muthanna, President of GE in the UAE and the Global Chief of Strategy and Operations for GE International Markets, said: “We are honored to welcome HE Sarah Al Amiri to GE’s facility in Jebel Ali, where we had the opportunity to discuss GE’s shared partnership in the UAE’s development. Advanced technology in the energy, aviation and healthcare industries continues to be a strong driver of the economy, and we are committed to supporting the nation’s future-focused development across sectors in the years ahead.”

Following a short introduction, Her Excellency spent time with GE’s Healthcare subsidiary, where she was shown how the company is supporting hospitals in elevating their operations using digital solutions, such as Command Center. Senior leaders from GE’s aerospace and digital businesses also demonstrated how they are working on the co-creation of digital and sustainable solutions in aviation at the Middle East Aviation Technology Center in Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA).

The Minister then toured the gas turbine facility, including the workshop floor, robotics cell and generator cell, while discussing the importance of supporting the country’s commitment to the energy transition. The delegation discussed the role of hydrogen and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in moving the needle on decarbonization.

With a clear focus on the technologies of the future, GE is looking forward to building on its 80 years in the region so far as a partner to growth. In the near future, GE will evolve from one company into three independent, industry-focused companies, centering on energy, healthcare and aviation. The GE companies of the future will continue their commitment to advancing technological solutions to serve customers and the UAE.

The UAE’s Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), established in July 2020, is mandated with strengthening the UAE’s industrial sector, specifically by accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) solutions across the value chain.
