Qatar’s Emir Meets GCC Interior Ministers

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani (photo) met with GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani at the Emiri Diwan on Wednesday morning, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Talks during the meeting dealt with a number of topics related to joint action and cooperation between the GCC states. Al Zayani briefed Sheikh Tamim on the latest preparations for the 15th consultative meeting of the GCC leaders due to be held in Saudi Arabia next week.

Sheikh Tamim also met on Wednesday at the Emiri Diwan with GCC Interior Ministers on the occasion of their 16th consultative meeting. During the meeting fraternal relations between GCC States were reviewed.

He wished the GCC Interior Ministers success in their meeting which aims to enhance cooperation among GCC states in security fields.

The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani presided over the 16th Consultative Meeting of the GCC Ministers of Interior which began on Wednesday at the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel. 

Sheikh Abdullah hoped that the 16th Consultative Meeting in Doha would contribute to the progress of the joint GCC action in order to implement the directives of the GCC leaders that called for more accomplishments to further boost GCC growth and achieve security, stability and well-being for their people. 

The meeting, he said, is being held under exceptional circumstances and unprecedented challenges facing the GCC and the entire Arab region, adding that these challenges include political instability and insecurity in a number of countries at the top of them is Yemen which “its stability is part and parcel of our stability”. 

Sheikh Abdullah praised the positions taken by GCC leaders to address all challenges facing the GCC states, commending the decision by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to launch Operation Decisive Storm.  

He further lauded the progress of the joint security action along with the cooperation between the GCC countries, terming it as a model to be followed at the regional and international levels. 

Security is one of the biggest challenges facing the GCC states due to drastic changes and developments and sensitive circumstances in the region, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani said.
